Is this your Opportunity?!
Thinking about buying or selling a home? It's one of the biggest financial decisions of your life. One that will impact your future for years to come. You may raise a family in this house, host game night with friends, chat by the fireplace, or just enjoy a quiet evening in the comfort of your own home. But, here's the deal, it's one of the largest investments of your life! There are currently (as of this writing) over 44,000 licensed Realtors in the state of Colorado. Simply put; when you're putting your life savings into an investment of this magnitude it's of the utmost importance to do it right and find a fit that will help you achieve those goals. The right Realtor is essential in setting you up for success. Let me tell you a little about myself and give you the control to see whether this is the right fit for you:
Years ago I was broke, couch surfing while pursuing a soccer career in Denver, Co (a long way from my home state of NY). The financial crisis of 2008 took place, foreclosures riddled the sidewalks of every street corner. I couldn't find a job, everybody was on a 'hiring freeze.' Bummer right? Well, kind of, little did I know that a great opportunity had presented itself. I told a friend about how real the struggle was; no way to find a house in this market. He introduced me to his realtor, the agent who recently sold him a home. Reluctantly, I made my way to Starbucks in Wheat Ridge, Colorado. My interest was peaked with some alarming charts, stats, and information about how possible it was to purchase a home. I left asking, why am I renting? Maybe I need to learn more about real estate and how it can impact my life. That night I looked over the information, cross-referenced it with some google searches and made a determination that I was going to explore the possibilities more. The next morning we spoke: "Let's give it a go, show me what you've got."
Overwhelmed
I quickly became immersed in new MLS listings, Hud homes, Short Sales, Foreclosures, meetings with lenders and realized This Is Possible. The following week I sat down with a lender and got my numbers together. We started our search, nice homes, average homes, and homes falling apart. I happened to like the ones falling apart because it provided opportunities for me to test my hand at renovation. We settled on a home in Arvada with disconnected plumbing, gross hardwood floors, and a long list of problems to start attacking.
Let's Go To Work!
Toolbelt secured, it wasn't more than 12 months and the house was sparkling, rooms were rented, cash-flow was flowing and I was thinking: 'Why not try this again?" We went back to work and 4 months later, another house, this time in Lakewood. Less than 1,000 finished sq. ft. but a fully unfinished basement. My eyes welled with joy, opportunity knocks sometimes when you have a contrarian mindset. Offer in, offer accepted, we were on our way to making this house sparkle too.
Spare Me!
Okay, okay, I think you get the point. I went on to continue doing this over and over for the next 5 years. My garage brandishes a beautiful set of tools. I'm not here to tell you my life's story, I'm here to advocate for the abundance of possibilities that buying or selling real estate can provide for you. But, only done the right way. Of all the knowledge accrued, hours searching for houses, rejected offers, etc...the biggest asset to me was my Realtor. It's clear that without a knowledgeable realtor, my life would look much differently.
Welcome Today
I hope my long story hasn't bored you too much, there's a lot I left out. But, I wanted you to see why I became a realtor. Quite often in life, the people that help change our lives the most are the same people who inspire our career paths. With the help of my realtor, I decided I wanted to dedicate my time to help others make a simple house; their Home. A simple yard; their entertainment area, and a simple thought; their reality!
